frequently asked questions

+ How many spaces do you have available?

Every year varies, but we do know that there will be places available in every age group. The more flexible you are with their program preferences, the more likely we will be able to accommodate your family.

+ Does my child have to be toilet-trained to attend nursery school?

No! We are happy to change diapers and work with families to help your child become toileted over the course of their time at the JCC.

+ Do I have to be a member of the JCC to apply?

No. Once your child is enrolled, your family will have the opportunity to receive special benefits and significant discounts on JCC Membership categories including Community, Basketball, Pool and Health Club. Please stop by the JCC Membership office in the Lobby, email membership@jccmanhattan.org or call 646.505.5700 to explore options and membership rates just for nursery school families!

+ What are the program options for the 4s/5s classes?

Please note that there is only one option for the 4s/5s Program. It takes place Monday through Thursday from 8:45 am-2:45 pm and on Friday from 8:45 am-1 pm.

+ My child isn’t vaccinated. Can we claim a religious exemption?

In order to protect the vulnerable members of our community, all children must be vaccinated as per NYC DOH requirements. Religious and/or personal exemptions are not accepted at our school.

+ How do children transition to ongoing schools?

Our nursery alumni families attend a wide range of both public and independent schools. Our administration offers strong support for you as you begin to consider which ongoing school to send your child and throughout the exmissions process. We have strong relationships with many independent schools, and work with you hand-in-hand to ensure you have the best understanding of the ongoing school landscape. We believe it is our responsibility to each of our families to not only offer an optimal learning environment in our school but also to connect you with excellent educational opportunities afterwards.
