A note from Felicia …
May 11, 2012
Dear Parents,
This week we participated in our annual Field Day celebration in Riverside Park. After a rain filled Wednesday, and lots of conversation and debate on whether to postpone the event until Monday, Field Day went off without a hitch! Early Thursday morning the children changed into baby blue Field Day shirts. As children walked through the common space, it was sea of blue. Children were shrieking with delight, in anticipation of this special day. Some knew what to expect- carnival games, sports with Coach Darren, and delicious pizza for lunch-while others had never attended a Field Day event and didn’t know a thing.
As we walked to Riverside Park, eight of our twelve classes in tow, the sidewalks were lined with energized teachers, parents, and children. Children were singing songs, asking questions, and had faces filled with excitement, and maybe a little trepidation. We arrived at the park to find carnival games and Coach Darren ready and eager to embrace the children and have some fun. Parents and caregivers set up their blankets, towels, and large black plastic bags (some feared the ground was still a little wet with overnight rain water) and Field Day had officially begun.
The children participated in numerous carnivals games, relay races and the chicken race with Coach Darren and his team, and enjoyed pizza and apples. I even had two helpers on deck to hand out apples with me, thank you Ella W. and Hannah! The day could not have gone better if we tried. Everything was organized perfectly by our wonderful volunteer parent committee and the day was a huge success.
As I spoke with parents and caregivers, I heard much of the same thing...this was an amazing Field Day celebration. There were smiles on everyone’s faces, a few tears for those who weren’t ready to leave, and a glee of happiness all around. The weather could not have been more perfect, and it was pure joy to see the children delight in the activities and enthusiastically play with their friends. We have already begun planning for Field Day next year...stay tuned!
Shabbat Shalom,
Felicia
